The University of Alabama REU in Interdisciplinary Convergence to Advance the Biotechnological and Bioscience Workforce is organized by the Departments of Chemical and Biological Engineering and Chemistry & Biochemistry. This program spans 10 weeks and offers opportunities for up to 10 students from UA and other institutions across the nation to engage in research with UA faculty.
The 10-week program begins each mid-May and will run through late July. Participants receive a stipend plus housing in furnished apartments. In addition to working with faculty on research projects, participants also attend weekly seminars describing modern biotechnology and bioscience research, tour regional research or industrial facilities, and have the opportunity to present their research at national research conferences.
